The Decline & Fall of Canada
On February 21, 2022 the world lost one of the most free and happiest democracies in the world. A nation that only a few decades prior had enjoyed the third highest standard of living on the planet despite being an underpopulated frozen wasteland. The fall of this once joy filled land did not come as result of marauding hordes of a brutal foreign power. Nor did it come from an vicious cabal of evil compatriots who seized power by force. The end of freedom came about voluntarily. The descendants of the men and women who settled this harsh land, the heroes of two world wars and the people who came to Canada thirsting for freedom and tolerance voluntarily gave up their freedom. Historians will look back at this period with puzzlement and derision. How did a nation that had it all, blow it all over a virus that, at the time they gave up their God given rights, only killed about one person in 100,000 under fifty years old if vaccinated and less than one person in ten thousand even if unvaccinated. Nor was the vaccine proven very effective in preventing contraction or transmission of the disease. The citizens of a once heroic nation gave up their rights because of cowardice and paranoia. The nation fell because the majority embraced a new form of corporate socialist authoritarianism marketed by a decadent, sociopathic and effete elite. In doing so, we slandered, marginalized and tormented the very minority that tried to save us.
For weeks, the Freedom Convoy rolled through Canada from British Columbia culminating with a completely peaceful protest which snarled up Ottawa traffic in front of the Parliament buildings. The government funded media vilified the protesters. Journalists, cheered on by Prime Minister Trudeau, referred to them as terrorists, insurrectionists, white supremacists and Nazis. The implication by Canada’s elite was that the truckers were either evil incarnate or subnormal white trash. The laptop and parasite classes showed their pathological hatred of the working classes. Like many despots in history, scapegoats were used to deflect from the societal problems created by a grossly incompetent elite. The Canadian economy was damaged, perhaps for the next decade, the public debt exploded, and inflation made the vast majority of individuals and families significantly poorer than the past. Small businesses were destroyed by the thousands and countless lives were ruined by a mandate program that was worse than useless. It was catastrophic. The elites who brought this nightmare upon us needed a scapegoat and those who stood up against this madness were targeted.
Perhaps the largest completely peaceful protest in North American history was ended by military type squads of police wearing body armor and helmets, with no identification hiding their faces, used batons, sticks, pepper stray and tear gas. Conveniently, a reporter, Alexa Lavoie from the small “c” conservative Rebel News, one of the few media outlets who covered the protest directly and does not receive government funds was injured when she was shot with a tear gas canister at point blank range. No reporters from the government media were abused by the police. In fact, reporters ran stories about protestors being verbally abusive and in one case, spitting at them. News anchors hailed these journalists as victims and brave heroes. Frankly, given how the media had vilified the anti-mandate people publicly, they were surprisingly restrained. Those mainstream reporters were being foolish to engage the crowd. They were either pathetically unaware or they were intentionally trying to provoke a reaction.
One incident demonstrated the deception of the Ottawa police and the media. An elderly Mohawk women in a walker was seemingly intentionally trampled by a mounted policeman. These horses routinely weigh over half a ton to accommodate those mostly large men. The incident was filmed. Some erroneously assumed that the woman was killed which was logical as she was taken away to hospital and one could assume a large horse trampling an elderly disabled woman would be fatal. At first, the Ottawa police claimed the incident never happened. When stories circulated that the incident had been filmed the narrative changed to someone had intentionally thrown a bicycle at the horse. When that lie was disproved, the attitude of the police and media (which supported the police story) was that she had it coming. In a move that reached the bottom of the barrel in journalist douchebaggery, the mainstream media attacked the alternative reporters and protesters as liars because the woman had survived.
Trudeau backed off on implementing hard authoritarianism, for now, because of relentless pressure. Americans who were against the Trudeau crackdown outnumbered those favoring it by almost two to one. And American opinion does count in Canada. Canada is a trading nation and most activity is with the U.S. Many Canadians have family in the U.S., especially the more educated and productive since Canada always experiences a brain drain depending on how the economy is doing relative to the U.S. Sadly, Canadians had the opposite distribution as did Democrats in the U.S. This battle has been clearly a populism vs. oligarch conflict.
The attempted freezing of some of the protestors and their supporters bank funds might be the more significant in the long run than the protest itself. Canadian citizens were told in no uncertain terms that their money, assets, investments and property only belonged to them at the pleasure of the ruling class. Even their homes did not truly belong to them. Very simply, if the government prevents you from working or running your business you cannot pay your mortgage. If you can’t pay your mortgage, the politicians buddies at the bank seize it and sell it or rent it out. They pocket the proceeds and can lend that money to more compliant citizens with better social credit scores. This is textbook authoritarian socialism. The state effectively controls all property. Acolytes are rewarded. People who love freedom are destroyed.
This has been a serious miscalculation by the left. Although actual numbers are difficult to get, there seems to have been a bank run. Many people took cash out of their accounts so, if the government froze their assets, they could buy food and other necessities of life. Not one bank CEO had the kahunas to publicly push back against this egregious betrayal by the government of it’s own citizens. Trudeau tipped the hand of the global oligarchs too early. Many will no longer trust the banking system. Trust in banking is part of the foundation of any civilized society from the time of Mesopotamia. The equivalent of the U.S. Attorney General in Canada stated proudly that he would go after the funds of people who supported Trump. Chrystia Freeland, the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, a George Soros sycophant and granddaughter of a Ukrainian WWII Nazi newspaper editor, warned Canadians that they would: follow the money. Authoritarian propagandists don’t fall far from the tree. Not implying that the Deputy Prime Minister is a Nazi but she is second-in-charge of a government that is far more totalitarian than Canadians ever experienced.
Trudeau has reversed himself partially but leaders of the protests remain in jail. Now the world is preoccupied with Putin’s attack on Ukraine. However, this question of what Canada will be going forward will have to be answered; a free and democratic nation of citizens or a hedonistic oligarchy populated by self-deluded tax serfs.
